“Is it safe?”

Safety Protocols at Noah’s Wilderness Adventures

This is the most common question we hear from first-time rafters. It is a fair question. Whitewater rafting is an adventure sport, and the Rogue River is a powerful force of nature.

“The difference between a ‘risky’ situation and a ‘thrilling’ adventure lies in preparation, equipment, and expertise.”

At Noah’s, we don’t just mitigate risk; we manage it with industry-leading protocols. Here is how we keep you safe on the water.

1 Professional Guide Training

Your guide is more than just a host; they are a highly trained river professional. Before they ever steer a boat with guests, our guides undergo rigorous training including:

  • Swiftwater Rescue Certification: Advanced techniques for reading water and rescuing swimmers.
  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR): Medical training specific to remote environments.
  • River Knowledge: Mastery of every rock and current in rapids like Blossom Bar and Rainie Falls.

2. The Right Gear (PFDs) + Helmets

We provide high-flotation, Coast Guard-approved Type V Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs). These are designed specifically for whitewater, keeping your head above water even in turbulent currents. We ensure a professional fit for every guest—from children to adults—before the boats ever leave the shore. Helmets are provided and always worn while kayaking.

3. Safety Briefings: “When in Doubt, Scout”

Before launch, every trip begins with a comprehensive safety talk. We teach you:

  • How to paddle effectively.
  • What to do if you fall out (don’t panic, feet up!).
  • How to pull a swimmer back into the boat.

On the river, we practice conservative decision-making. If a rapid looks particularly technical due to changing water levels, we stop and “scout” it from the shore to plan our line.

4. The Nature of the Rogue

The Rogue River is rated Class III (Intermediate). This is the “Goldilocks” class for families—exciting enough to get your adrenaline pumping with big splashes, but forgiving enough that it doesn’t require prior experience. The most difficult rapid, Blossom Bar (Class IV), is navigated with precision by our guides while you listen to their commands.

Adventure requires a respect for nature, but with the right team leading the way, you can relax and enjoy the ride.
